ALEXANDRIA
My limited edition folk art prints feature Alexandria and many other locations including New York, Boston, Nantucket, Philadelphia, Cape Cod, Washington, DC, Annapolis, Rehoboth, DE, Williamsburg and Cape Hatteras. Because I live in Alexandria I have many images depicting the unique qualities of this special 18th Century town. Alexandria has many parades such as the Alexandria Scottish Walk, which I have painted several times, and it always brings a smile to see the many bagpipers and Scotty dogs at the Scottish Walk. The Scottish Walk folk art print is one of my most popular prints. The Halloween Parade, which I depicted in “Ghost Tours”, is a favorite event in Alexandria and brings together canines and people in all manner of outrageous and funny costumes. As a folk artist, I use humor and color to tell the story of Alexandria. At this time, I have over thirty folk art prints from my original paintings of Alexandria.
The Alexandria Farmers’ Market has been an ongoing event in Alexandria for over 200 years and one of the most beloved activities in the city. Every Saturday morning between 6:00am and 11:00am farmers, florists, crafters and artists bring their products to Market Square in the Alexandria City Hall plaza to sell and socialize. Because dogs are not allowed on the square during the market, you will see very well behaved dogs sitting by the curb tied to a pole waiting patiently for their owners. It is a happy time to meet friends and buy wonderful items for the week. I have been selling my original American folk art paintings, American folk art prints, folk art note cards, Farmers’ Market tote bags, children’s book and Alexandria and Washington Christmas ornaments at the market for 13 years and have made many lasting friendships over those years. I have painted the Alexandria Farmers’ Market on canvas and it is reproduced on limited edition prints, note cards, tote bags and tee shirts. My image of the Farmers’ Market is used on the introductory flyer at the market.
Alexandria, VA has many historic sites and I have folk art limited edition prints and folk art note cards of many of them including Gadsby’s Tavern, The Alexandria Friendship Firehouse, The Carlyle House, George Washington’s town house, The Ramsay House, Alexandria Christ Church, The Old Presbyterian Meeting House, Mount Vernon, the Campagna Center and Gunston Hall. All of the Alexandria historic sites present a special view of Alexandria in the 18th through the 20th centuries. Because many of the docents and employees at these sites are in period costume, I mix the old with the new in my folk art paintings and prints.
Market Square in Old Town (pictured left) is the oldest continuously operating marketplace in the United States and was once the site of the second-largest slave market in the U.S. Today it contains a large fountain and extensive landscaping, as well as a farmers' market each Saturday morning.
If you love Alexandria, then these works by Pat Palermino are sure to please. Alexandria Boat Parade, Alexandria Christmas Tree, Alexandria Scottish Walk, and Alexandria Waterfront
